A quick news update then. Maggie and I are both in new jobs, I have been working in Reading since February for a company called Macrovision. They are into copy protection of Videos, DVD’s, CD’s and software. Maggie is working at Hampshire Constabulary, in Winchester – and walks to work which is a real bonus compared with my 90 mile round trip daily commute.

Nicky and Tarryn have both finished their exams (well Tarryn has two left this week). Nicky has started her second and last year of college, and has a few weeks of this before she breaks up for the summer holidays. After her last GCSE exam on Friday, Tarryn has a few months off until she starts A-Levels at Peter Symonds in September. They have both got themselves jobs during the summer holidays – Tarryn is going to be working at Marks & Spencers, and Nicky at Clarks (hopefully, she has applied there as her current Saturday job at Debenhams is a real bore).

The Sailing is going well despite summer not really arriving here in the UK. The weekends have been pretty dismal apart from a nice Jubilee weekend, which we made the most of on Debanessa. I am still racing on Wednesday evenings on Kathy and Rupert’s (friends) boat – used to be Quango but they have a new Laser 28 now called Flying Fish. I have done a good bit of Challenge sailing during the winter, and have some regattas and corporate sails lines up for next week and the one thereafter. I took my Yachtmaster exam in January (practical we sailed to Portsmouth on Debanessa), but failed – with some non skipperly actions of trying to do too much myself and not standing back enough and delegating to the crew (Maggie, Nicky and Tarryn). Lesson learnt, and a bit more practice should seem me retake the exam at the end of the summer season.

I have sold the Z3 so we are down to the one car (Maggie’s Nissan Micra). We will try and survive with just the one until after my year long race in 2004/2005.

Although news letters have been sparse, I have been refreshing the website (www.TheChalmers.com) which has a few new features…

  • Webcam pointing up the driveway (GopherCam)…
  • Digital Diary
  • A much improved Search Facility

And of course all the usual news, pictures, up to date weather and our array of webcams tracking our daily lives. The family tree is still quite active and solicits emails from a few people keen to know more about famous cricketers who are all part of our tree.
