10.00am

Hello everybody, from a little patch of sea off Beachy Head. I shouldn’t really be awake yet; my watch doesn’t start until midday. Last night (this morning really) I had the 2.00 am till 6.00 am watch. It was pretty amazing really; I’ve never seen stars like it. It was literally a blanket. When I bothered to look up I also saw two shooting stars. Another good thing about that watch is that at 5.30 am its sunrise. Before that however a very disconcerting thing was going on. There was a band of cloud on the horizon which meant we couldn’t see it. When there were no more buoys to find we were motoring into nothing, which I didn’t find too reassuring. Sunrise was both incredible and instantaneous. I went down below deck to make a start on breakfast when you couldn’t see the sun yet. And when I came back up it was already there. I managed to catch a glimpse of it through the hatch whilst burning toast. I went to bed at 6.00 am and woke at about 9.00 and am now a bit bored and I’ve also run out of things to say. If you click on this link you will see our log so far, which I must say isn’t the most exciting read I’ve ever had.

Also if you go to http://www.thechalmers.com you will be able to see the more exciting tale of our sail (tee hee that rhymes).

Sorry about that boring that. I’ll try to make the next one a bit more interesting.

1.00pm

Finally the wind has picked up and we were able to turn the engine off for lunch at midday. The suncream has also come out and I’m getting a good tan. The radio is turned on to some Brighton station. It’s not bad I suppose, though the DJ is very stupid.

We are currently just ahead of schedule and a bit further inland than we expected, but the wind to too good to motor into so we’ll tack just after Dungeness. Oh my god the radio says there is a crunchie McFlurry, I’ve gotta get me one of those. Oh Ricki Martin is on the radio, liz will be jealous. Expecting to go through dover straits at about 5.00pm. I’ll write more then.
