So yesterday I was all depressed, and today I am all excited again…
The cause of the problem, the New World Challenge has been altered to be a "round America" race (Southampton, Boston, New York, Buenos Aires, somewhere in Chile, San Diago, San Francisco). Not going around the world. This is not what I want to do. Major depression.
Then Mandy phoned me this morning (Mandy is the liaison between us CV's and Challenge), listened to my woes and pulled a rabbit out of the hat and gave me a place on the 2004 BT Challenge.
So, no New World Challenge, May 2002 - I must now wait/train until August 2004.
The route is Southampton, Boston, Buenos Aires, Wellington, Sydney, Cape Town, Spain, Southampton)
The major attraction - The Southern Ocean of course, not to mention Sydney, Cape Town AND leaving/arriving at Southampton. And of course I get to circumnavigate the world, against wind and water.
Maggie, the kids and I are still on track for our England/Wales circumnavigation this summer. The kids are doing their "Day Skipper" theory the week after next, and Maggie and I are learning how to stare at heavenly bodies through a sextant the last week in May. My training in San Francisco in May is now back on after I had resigned myself to packing it all in after the collapse of the NWC.
What an emotional roller-coaster…
