Well, I have been a busy bee over the last few days. I have finally finished by Family Tree web application. You may remember/have known/have been bugged by me in the past that I have had a Family Tree set of web pages on the Internet for a while now. These were hand coded HTML pages, one page per person. And so if things were wrong, or new people were added - then there was always a ripple effect as invariably the linked pages also needed updating.
Well that has all changed now. I now have a database and set of .asp pages (very few) sitting on some computer somewhere in the states. AND, I can now share the workload of keeping it all up to date with you lot. Also, being a database, and being .asp pages, all the work of maintaining the information has become a whole lot easier.
So, start by looking at the Family Tree on http://www.thechalmers.com/
Then if you spot something wrong, or if you can add to the tree with your side of the family, or with other people or information that you know about, then start by clicking on the following link
(link deleted for security)
Now there is no security to speak of, so if you delete or mess it all up, then it is deleted or all messed up. I will, however, take a weekly backup of the database.
From the list of people, click on the ID number of the person that you wish to change, or click on the AddNew link.
If you have any questions, send me an email
Please feel absolutely free to go wild, and add as many people as you know about. The tree is pretty deep at the moment, but not very broad. So for example, it has most of my immediate family but not much of Ana's. I have 60Mb of disk space available on the brinkster server, and am only using about 5% at the moment, so space is not an issue.
Let me know if you have any other suggestions…
