Hi all,

There are three (as far as I know) around the world races going on at the moment, the Times 2000 which left from Portsmouth in October, the BT Global Challenge which left from Ocean Village, Southampton in September and the Vendee single handed race which left from France in November.

The races can be followed via the web at the following links

Times 2000 : http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0,,35-58970,00.html (Can’t find a dedicated website)

BT Global Challenge : http://www.btchallenge.com/

Vendee Globe : http://www.vendeeglobe.com/home.asp?lang=us

Most impressive of all (IMHO) is the progress of Ellen MacArthur on Kingfisher. She is currently lying third in the Vendee Globe single handed around the world race.

For those who don’t know, she is 24, comes from the Isle of Wight, and recently (early 2000) won the “The Man” race, a single handed transatlantic race.

On the more mundane, and personal yacht racing news front, Debanessa is being lifted on the 3rd of January and is having her bottom pressure washed, and then the four of us are going to attempt to put two coats of anti-foul paint on her before she is returned to the cold Southampton waters on the 4th.

My New World Challenge preparations are continuing, and kick off with a weeks training on the 25th of January (a cold and wet time to be sailing) and again on the 15th of February. The training takes place out of Plymouth on the 67 feet ex “British Steel Challenge” yachts.
